How Vat Calculator works
Using the VAT calculator, you can determine the taxable value and the VAT amount. To calculate VAT, all you need to know is the amount i.e. the price and the VAT rate. With the help of the VAT calculator, you can calculate exclusive and inclusive VAT.
Exclusive of VAT
Excluding VAT (i.e., the cost of the product or service), you can enter an amount or price here. When you choose to exclude VAT, the following formula will be used to calculate the applicable VAT rate.
Rate of VAT x 100 = Taxable Value
Inclusive of VAT
In this case, VAT is included in the price or amount stated. Product cost and VAT amount are included in this figure. The following formula can be used to determine the VAT amount when the price offered includes the VAT.
In other words, VAT is the sum of the taxed value multiplied by the tax rate.
(100 – tax rate) X 100 = Taxable Value/Price/Value inclusive of tax
What is input Vat and output VAT?
Input VAT and output VAT are essential concepts in the VAT system. Let’s look at some examples to have a better grasp on it.
Output VAT
Output Tax is the tax that is collected when a product or service is sold. As an example, A-One Traders made a sale of $1,000,000+5% tax on $1,000,000 of items. A-One Traders collects a tax of 5,000 as an output vat.
Input VAT
When goods or services are purchased, the buyer is required to pay Input Tax. A-One Traders, for instance, bought items from Jumbo Distributors valued $50,000 plus 5% tax. A-One Traders pay an Input Tax of 2,500.
How to calculate VAT payment?
A firm must pay VAT, however this does not mean that the entire amount of VAT collected on sales must be paid. The formula for calculating the VAT due to the government can be found below.
VAT Payment = Output VAT – (minus) Input VAT
In this case, all you need to do is figure out the entire amount of output VAT and input VAT that you are entitled to claim back throughout the tax period. Apply the method above once you’ve figured out your output and input VAT.
The difference between your output VAT and your input VAT is what you’ll have to pay in taxes. There will be no VAT owed if output VAT is less than the input VAT, because the refund will cover the difference.

The VAT rate in the United Arab Emirates is 5% of the invoice value (barring special cases like the profit margin scheme). Suppose the Cost Price of the goods/services is AED 100, as an illustration. The value-added tax (VAT) is now set at 5%. That’s 100 multiplied by 5%, which comes out to AED 5 as the input VAT.
How do you add 5% VAT on a calculator?
The net sum must be multiplied by 1 plus the VAT percentage in order to arrive at the gross VAT amount.
How do you take VAT off a price?
To get rid of VAT, multiply the gross amount by -1 and round it down to the nearest whole number to get an estimate of the VAT gross amount.
