How to watch & live stream in UK? Are Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd playing Trump? The World Snooker Tour returns to China this month for the first time since 2019 as the Shanghai Masters returns to the calendar. We take you through everything you need to know ahead of the 24-player event.

The momentum for the 2023/24 snooker season continues with the return of the Shanghai Masters in September.
This will be the first World Snooker Tour tournament in China since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ronnie O’Sullivan is the defending champion, having defeated Shaun Murphy in the 2019 final.

The 2023 Shanghai Masters will run from September 11-17.

Who is playing the Shanghai Masters?

The Shanghai Masters is a 24-player invitational non-ranking snooker tournament open to the world’s top-16 ranked players, as well as eight Chinese players.
Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to play his first WST event of the season as he bids for a fourth consecutive title in Shanghai.
The seven-time world champion will start against Ali Carter or a wildcard player.

Have you ever seen a better snooker escape shot?

New world champion Luca Brecel will face Mark Williams or Pang Junxu, while Judd Trump will face Jack Lisowski or Zhou Yulong.
There will be an all-China clash as Ding Junhui is pitted against Crucible semi-finalist Si Jiahui.
All matches up to and including the quarter-finals are best of 11 frames. The semi-finals will be best of 19 and then the final will be best of 21.

What is the Shanghai Masters schedule?

Play on the first two days of the tournament will begin at 2.30 am UK time.
Since then morning sessions start at 7am UK time and evening sessions start at 12.30pm UK time.
The semi-finals will be played on Friday and Saturday and the final will be played on Sunday, September 17.
Session times are as follows (all UK times):
Monday, September 11: Round 1 – Sessions start at 2.30am, 7.30am, 12.30pm
Tuesday, September 12: Round 1 and Round 2 – Sessions start at 2.30am, 7.30am, 12.30pm
Wednesday, September 13: Round 2 – Sessions start at 7am and 12.30pm
Thursday, September 14: Quarter-finals – Sessions start at 7am and 12.30pm
Friday, September 15: Semifinals – sessions start at 7am and 12.30pm
Saturday, 16 September: Semifinals – sessions start at 7am and 12.30pm
Sunday, September 17: Final – Sessions start at 7am and 12.30pm
