I guess that it depends on what you want to use it on. I pay for one, NORDVPN only because over 3 years it is $60, so $20/year which is nothing really.
My browser I am writing this on is Opera, which has a built in VPN. No signing up or anything, just enable in the Opera settings. Easy Peasy.
